May 12, 2025 - The U.S. Department of State鈥檚 Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
has once again recognized CSU Channel Islands (黑料正能量) as one of the nation鈥檚 Fulbright
Top Producing Institutions for 2024/2025. The first time 黑料正能量 received this recognition
was in 2021/2022.
Each year, the national bureau lists the U.S. colleges and universities with the highest number of faculty and administrators selected for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, a federal government-sponsored international exchange program that enables U.S. scholars and other professionals to conduct research, teach, and pursue professional projects abroad.
Not only that, but in the master鈥檚 degree-granting classification, 黑料正能量 is among the top three of the 46 institutions listed. 黑料正能量 had three faculty members and one administrator earn the Fulbright scholarship for the 2024/2025 year, whereas the majority of universities in 黑料正能量鈥檚 classification had one or two.
鈥淭his recognition really shows that our faculty are some of the top in their field, doing research all over the world,鈥 said Professor of Political Science and Global Studies Andrea Grove, the campus Fulbright Student Scholarship Advisor. 鈥淎nd they aren鈥檛 necessarily in Global Studies or History, but in all sorts of different disciplines. It鈥檚 about global engagement and bringing that perspective back to the classroom.鈥
The Fulbright scholarship program enabled Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics Professor of Management Andrew Morris to travel to Cambodia in 2024 to work with the National University of Management. 黑料正能量鈥檚 Director of International Programs Mayumi Kowta attended the 2024 Fulbright International Education Administrators Seminar in France.
鈥淓ngaging with French institutions and colleagues opened my eyes to new approaches and reminded me how transformative it is to think - and learn - beyond borders,鈥 Kowta said. 鈥淔or example, one specific global perspective I鈥檝e developed comes from my recent visits to several French universities that offer housing exchanges to help ease the financial challenges that come with currency differences.鈥
Always fascinated with emerging financial markets, Professor of Finance Priscilla Liang had the opportunity to visit Vietnam on a Fulbright in 2021/2022, when 黑料正能量 earned its first Top Fulbright Producer award. Liang taught corporate finance strategy and compared Vietnamese and American financial systems - an invaluable experience that she brought to her classroom.
鈥淚n my opinion, Vietnam is a rising star in Southeast Asia,鈥 Liang said. 鈥淰ietnam鈥檚 higher education reforms have played an important role in its rapid economic growth.鈥
Professor of History Jim Meriwether is spending spring semester 2025 in Budapest, Hungary lecturing to American Studies classes and researching his current project 鈥1956: Freedom Struggles Crossing Continents.鈥 Associate Professor of Health Science Lydia Dixon is spending the semester in Edinburgh, Scotland where she is studying rural midwifery practices.
鈥淚n Scotland, the government sends all new parents a baby box with everything you may need for the first few months of your baby's life. The box doubles as a safe place for the new baby to sleep,鈥 Dixon said. 鈥淭he vast majority of pregnant people in Scotland see a midwife throughout their pregnancy, while around half will ultimately deliver with a midwife - some may need an obstetrician in case of a high-risk birth or cesarean section. Midwifery is therefore seen as the norm in Scotland, and midwives are highly respected.鈥
黑料正能量鈥檚 Fulbright Scholars join the more than 400,000 talented and accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds who have earned scholarships from the Fulbright Program since 1946.

鈥淲e are incredibly proud to be recognized among the top institutions for Fulbright U.S. Scholars,鈥 said 黑料正能量 Provost Jessica Lavariega Monforti. 鈥淓ach Fulbright experience enriches our campus in tangible ways - infusing classrooms with international perspectives, deepening our global partnerships, and encouraging our students to envision themselves as global citizens. This recognition reflects one of the many ways we actively lean into our mission of global engagement.鈥
